Yoga- Yoga is a mind-body practice designed to improve overall health, strength, flexibility, and mental clarity in people of all ages and fitness levels.  Yoga classes at Now and Zen are a safe and friendly way to learn and practice yoga.  Each class includes a warm-up, the yoga workout with standing poses, and cool down with a 5-10 minute relaxation/meditation.

Beginning Yoga-Our beginner class starts with basic yoga poses with explanations of their benefits and proper modifications.  As the session progresses we add a flow to the class so that by end of the session students are ready for a level 1 or mixed level class.  The level of difficulty increases, however the option for the more modified version is always encouraged.

Gentle Yoga-Gentle Yoga concentrates on gentle stretching, hip openings and breath.  The primary focus of gentle yoga is to bring balance to the body with gentle and relaxing postures.  This class concentrates on joining the breath with each movement in a gentle and guiding manner.  Gentle yoga is perfect for seniors, beginners, those recovering from an injury or surgery, or those who have health issues.

Mom and Baby Yoga- This is a wonderful class for mom (and dads) and their babies who are not yet crawling. It is designed to help new moms reconnect with their bodies, build strength and flexibility while enjoying time with their babies.  It is also a great place to meet new moms!

Prenatal Yoga- This class not only offers postures, breathing exercises, and meditation for expecting and new moms, but includes time to share with other moms and moms-to-be.

Sunrise Yoga- This class is a perfect way to start the day.  We start with gentle stretches to wake up the body.  Depending on the needs of the students we will either keep it slow and gentle or move into a little more flow as the class evolves.  Greet the sunrise with yoga!

Therapeutic Yoga - This is an extremely gentle class.  We show the poses using a chair, props (blocks, bolsters etc) and modifications without props.  We move at a slow pace and design the class specifically for the needs of the students in the class.  This is a perfect class for people dealing with MS, fibromyalgia, arthritis, injury, oncology and seniors.

Yin Yoga- Yin Yoga poses gently stretch and rehabilitate the connective tissues around our joints.  In order to get to the fascia (connective tissue) and ligaments we hold the poses for 3-5 minutes while relaxing the muscles.  Yin yoga is challenging mentally and physically for those who tend to gravitate to a more active style of yoga.  It is a nice way to compliment running, biking, tennis, pilates and active yoga practices.  This class is perfect for beginners to advanced students.

Yoga for Runners/Walkers- This class is designed specifically for runners and walkers. We focus on stretching the hamstrings and psoas muscles. We incorporate poses to increase strength in the ankles, feet, core and upper body. You do not need to be a runner or walker to enjoy this class. Everyone is welcome!

Cardio-Pilates- Cardio-pilates is a perfect blend of exercises to get the heart rate up, with the benefits of pilates.  We start this 60 minute class with a 20 minute cardio workout which brings your heart rate up to the fat burning zone.  We then moving into the traditional mat pilates movements and breathing to get an overall body toning and strengthening.  It is so much fun you won’t realize  you are exercising!

Pilates- This class focuses on the core postural muscles to stabilize body while improving the quality of the movement.  This form of exercise concentrates on correct posture, breathing, flexibility, toning and strengthening.

                                  Class Levels

Beginning- Students having never done yoga or those who would like to revisit and perfect their poses

Level 1- Students who have taken the 9 week beginner session or have done yoga previously.

Level 2-Students who have been practicing for 6 months or more.  We explore deeper expression of poses, basic pranayama, inversions and begin simple arm balances.

Level 3-Students who have been practicing 1 year or more.  We explore history of yoga, chakras, pranayama arm balances and inversions.

Mixed Level- Students practicing at the Level 1-3.  We offer modifications as well as enhancements for poses.  Students are encouraged to practice at their own pace.

Power Yoga- Power yoga is for those who have been practicing yoga and want a more intense workout.  We incorporate some pilates exercises along with yoga strengthening poses.  If you like to sweat while you do yoga, this is the class for you.

Flow Yoga- In this class we integrate strong fluid movements with energizing breath work to build your yoga practice.  As we flow from one posture to another we build heat in the body helping to energize and renew our minds, bodies and spirits.  Although this class is not suited for beginners, it is a perfect class for all other levels.

Gigong (Chi kung)- Qigong is an ancient Chinese tradition that is practiced to promote self-healing.  Qigong uses gentle body movements, self massage, breath practices and deep relaxation and integrates them into a single practice giving you the power to heal within.

Iyengar Yoga- Based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar, this style of yoga emphasizes a holistic approach to health using postures, breath and meditation.  Iyengar yoga stresses perfect alignment, but doing so using props (blankets, blocks, etc) to help the body ease into the work without pain.  This class is suitable for all levels.

Yoga for Teens- We designed this class as a fun way to help teens become stronger, more flexible and learn to clear their minds and deal with the stress in their lives.  Because we stress that each individual practice at their own pace this is a perfect class for non-athletes and athletes.

Restorative Yoga- Discover stillness in this deeply rejuvenating practice using props (blankets, bolsters, and blocks).  We will experience supported postures as the body naturally balances itself.  Exploring consciousness and relaxation with gentle yoga poses, breath work, guided meditation as we release into a tranquil place for mind, body and spirit.

Yoga for Oncology Patients- We developed this class knowing that patients living with Chemotherapy treatments have times when they feel good and times when they do not.  The class is by drop in only and is designed specifically for the needs of those in the class.  The class includes extremely gentle poses with breath work and meditation.

Yoga for Emotional Healing- This class is a soft and gentle yoga class to help heal our hearts.  We include gentle poses that open the heart and guided meditation.  It is good for anyone who wants to deepen their connection to the heart.

Yoga for Teachers/Assistants- This class is geared towards helping teachers and assistants find relaxation and peace in their busy schedules. We will teach basic yoga poses but with an emphasis on strengthening the back and creating flexibility through the neck, shoulders and chest. We will be introducing breathing exercises that will help to clear the mind and calm the central nervous system. This class is a perfect way to distress between work and home. Everyone is welcome!
