Yoga-
Yoga is a mind-body practice designed to improve overall health,
strength, flexibility, and mental clarity in people of all ages
and fitness levels. Yoga
classes at Now and Zen are a safe and friendly way to learn and
practice yoga. Each
class includes a warm-up, the yoga workout with standing poses,
and cool down with a 5-10 minute relaxation/meditation.
Beginning Yoga-Our
beginner class starts with basic yoga poses with explanations of
their benefits and proper modifications.
As the session progresses we add a flow to the class so
that by end of the session students are ready for a level 1 or
mixed level class. The
level of difficulty increases, however the option for the more
modified version is always encouraged.
Gentle Yoga-Gentle
Yoga concentrates on gentle stretching, hip openings and breath.
The primary focus of gentle yoga is to bring balance to
the body with gentle and relaxing postures.
This class concentrates on joining the breath with each
movement in a gentle and guiding manner.
Gentle
yoga is perfect for seniors, beginners, those recovering from an
injury or surgery, or those who have health issues.
Mom and Baby Yoga-
This
is a wonderful class for mom (and dads) and their babies who are
not yet crawling. It is designed to help new moms reconnect with
their bodies, build strength and flexibility while enjoying time
with their babies. It is also a great place to meet new moms!
Prenatal
Yoga- This class not only offers postures, breathing
exercises, and meditation for expecting and new moms, but
includes time to share with other moms and moms-to-be.
Sunrise Yoga- This class is a perfect way to start
the day. We start
with gentle stretches to wake up the body.
Depending on the needs of the students we will either
keep it slow and gentle or move into a little more flow as the
class evolves. Greet
the sunrise with yoga!
Therapeutic
Yoga -
This is an extremely gentle class.
We show the poses using a chair, props (blocks, bolsters
etc) and modifications without props.
We move at a slow pace and design the class specifically
for the needs of the students in the class.
This is a perfect class for people dealing with MS,
fibromyalgia, arthritis, injury, oncology and seniors.
Yin
Yoga- Yin Yoga poses gently stretch and rehabilitate the connective tissues
around our joints. In
order to get to the fascia (connective tissue) and ligaments we
hold the poses for 3-5 minutes while relaxing the muscles.
Yin yoga is challenging mentally and physically for those
who tend to gravitate to a more active style of yoga.
It is a nice way to compliment running, biking, tennis,
pilates and active yoga practices.
This class is perfect for beginners to advanced students.
Yoga
for Runners/Walkers-
This class is designed specifically for runners and walkers. We
focus on stretching the hamstrings and psoas muscles. We
incorporate poses to increase strength in the ankles, feet, core
and upper body. You do not need to be a runner or walker to
enjoy this class. Everyone is welcome!
Cardio-Pilates-
Cardio-pilates
is a perfect blend of exercises to get the heart rate up, with
the benefits of pilates. We
start this 60 minute class with a 20 minute cardio workout which
brings your heart rate up to the fat burning zone.
We then moving into the traditional mat pilates movements
and breathing to get an overall body toning and strengthening.
It is so much fun you won’t realize
you are exercising!
Pilates- This class focuses on the core postural
muscles to stabilize body while improving the quality of the
movement. This form
of exercise concentrates on correct posture, breathing,
flexibility, toning and strengthening.
Class Levels
Beginning-
Students having never done yoga or those who
would like to revisit and perfect their poses
Level
1- Students who have taken the 9 week beginner
session or have done yoga previously.
Level
2-Students who have been practicing for 6 months
or more. We explore
deeper expression of poses, basic pranayama, inversions and
begin simple arm balances.
Level
3-Students who have been practicing 1 year or
more. We explore
history of yoga, chakras, pranayama arm balances and inversions.
Mixed
Level- Students practicing at the Level 1-3.
We offer modifications as well as enhancements for poses.
Students are encouraged to practice at their own pace.
Power Yoga- Power
yoga is for those who have been practicing yoga and want a more
intense workout. We
incorporate some pilates exercises along with yoga strengthening
poses. If you like to
sweat while you do yoga, this is the class for you.
Flow Yoga- In this class we
integrate strong fluid movements with energizing breath work to
build your yoga practice. As
we flow from one posture to another we build heat in the body
helping to energize and renew our minds, bodies and spirits.
Although this class is not suited for beginners, it is a
perfect class for all other levels.
Gigong (Chi kung)- Qigong is an ancient Chinese tradition that is
practiced to promote self-healing.
Qigong uses gentle body movements, self massage, breath
practices and deep relaxation and integrates them into a single
practice giving you the power to heal within.
Iyengar Yoga- Based
on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar, this style of yoga emphasizes
a holistic approach to health using postures, breath and
meditation. Iyengar
yoga stresses perfect alignment, but doing so using props
(blankets, blocks, etc) to help the body ease into the work
without pain. This
class is suitable for all levels.
Yoga
for Teens- We designed this class as a fun way to help teens
become stronger, more flexible and learn to clear their minds and
deal with the stress in their lives.
Because we stress that each individual practice at their
own pace this is a perfect class for non-athletes and athletes.
Restorative Yoga- Discover
stillness in this deeply rejuvenating practice using props
(blankets, bolsters, and blocks).
We will experience supported postures as the body naturally
balances itself. Exploring
consciousness and relaxation with gentle yoga poses, breath work,
guided meditation as we release into a tranquil place for mind,
body and spirit.
Yoga
for Oncology Patients- We developed this class knowing that
patients living with Chemotherapy treatments have times when they
feel good and times when they do not.
The class is by drop in only and is designed specifically
for the needs of those in the class.
The class includes extremely gentle poses with breath work
and meditation.
Yoga for Emotional Healing- This class is a soft and
gentle yoga class to help heal our hearts.
We include gentle poses that open the heart and guided
meditation. It is
good for anyone who wants to deepen their connection to the heart.
Yoga
for Teachers/Assistants- This class is geared towards helping
teachers and assistants find relaxation and peace in their busy
schedules. We will teach basic yoga poses but with an emphasis on
strengthening the back and creating flexibility through the neck,
shoulders and chest. We will be introducing breathing exercises
that will help to clear the mind and calm the central nervous
system. This class is a perfect way to distress between work and
home. Everyone is welcome!
